How do I get started?
Start by filling in the Pet Illustration Inquiry Form or contact Janelle at: info@janelleknihnitski.com.
She will contact you to ask for any photos and to clarify whether you want a custom Vyshyvanka for an extra $15 added to your order (make sure to check your junk folder).
Details example: You have a clear photo of your pet/animal friend. If you want a custom Vyshyvanka a photo is provided with sufficient detail for a reference.

Do you need a photo to create the pet illustration?
Yes, a clear full body with the face facing front photo works best.
I only have an old photo that is not the best quality, will that work?
Yes, Janelle can do the pet illustration with an old photo. She will just need to clarify the details with you.
Is a pet illustration a characterization portrait?
Please familiarize yourself with Janelle’s pet illustration style and manage your expectations. This is not meant to be a characterization portrait but Janelle will aim to capture the details of your animal.
Do you illustrate the background from my photo reference?
No, the fashion illustration is done with a white background showcasing the subject.
How long does the process take?
The whole process will approximately take 5-10 business days with prompt replies. We do not follow up on our sent emails and the more changes that you wish to make the longer the process will take. If your order is time sensitive a rush fee can be applied to ensure it is completed on time.
Is pricing per pet?
Yes pricing is per pet. Example: if you want two pet illustrations it would be $80 per pet = $160.
How do I pay?
Once the price is confirmed Janelle can send you an invoice to be paid online or we can use e-transfer. The buyer can choose which option works best for them.
How much is shipping?
The commission will be signed, wrapped carefully and shipped to you. The buyer is responsible for shipping fees:
Lettermail shipping, no tracking: $5
Package shipping, tracking included: starting at $20 (will vary depending on location)
*All fees based on Canada Post rates. We aim to package all artwork into one package to reduce multiple shipping fees.
What is the pet illustration created on?
Mixed media (alcohol ink markers, acrylic paint and archival ink) illustrated on acid-free vellum-surfaced paper.
Can I request a change to the finished pet illustration?
After the details have been confirmed for your pet illustration no further changes will be allowed. A minor adjustment may be possible, please communicate the request to Janelle. (ex: the fur color is too light and you would like it to be darker).
Can I return my pet illustration?
Due to the nature of custom pet illustrations there are no refunds or exchanges. All pet illustrations are final sale.
Janelle’s pet illustrations aim to pay tribute to our pets, our animal friends and family members. She understands the honor of wearing a Ukrainian Vyshyvanka, the memories it carries and the history it represents.
Janelle’s pet illustration style was inspired by her childhood dog “Scruffy”, who became a part of her family after visiting repeatedly as a stray.
As well as Mark’s cat “Ewok”, who lived a long and happy life and who’s irreplaceable energy is still missed.
The love of these connections was channeled as a meaningful personal project that Janelle has decided to bring to you as well!
